About GNOM
GNOM is a research group formed by lecturers and post-graduate students of the departments of Statistics and Operations Research, and of Applied Mathematics I at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona. The group is working on both numerical optimization methods and mathematical programming modeling of any problem that can be solved through optimization. GNOM is a consolidated research group that is recognized and funded by the Government of Catalonia (SGR-2014-542 and SGR-2009-1122). The activity of the GNOM group has been focused in the following areas: Energy, Statistical Data Protection, Optimization and Supply Chain.
GNOM highlights:
- A research staff composed of full time lecturers and M.Sc. and Ph.D. students of the UPC as well as a set of external lecturers and researchers from universities in Europe and America.
- Continuous and high quality scientific production consisting of papers in scientific journals, mostly published in international JCR indexed journals; book chapters and published conference proceedings; and presentations in national and international conferences.
- Extensive experience in the management of funded research and development projects (three of which are currently being executed) with both public institutions and utility providers from the private sector, in the areas of Energy, Statistical Data Protection and Optimization.
- Intensive and high quality academic activity, lecturing Master´s and degree courses in several of the UPC schools, on topics ranging from the fundamentals of operations research, mathematics and probability, to advanced courses in mathematical modelling, optimization and applications. The lecturers of the GNOM group are also very involved in advising M.Sc., B.Sc. and Ph.D. thesis candidates on optimization and its applications (energy, finance, statistical confidence, telecommunications, supply chain, logistics etc).
